Marketplace France: the 10 best platforms to sell on in 2026

Written by ShippyPro Team | Jun 20, 2019, 11:54:37 AM

The best marketplaces to sell on in France in 2026 are Amazon.fr, Cdiscount, Leroy Merlin, ManoMano, La Redoute, Veepee, Fnac Darty, Decathlon, Maisons du Monde and leboncoin. Choosing a marketplace France channel depends less on its total audience than on how closely your product category matches the platform's positioning: according to the Lengow 2025 barometer, eight of the ten best-performing French marketplaces for sellers are backed by physical retail chains rather than by pure-play web businesses.

French e-commerce has crossed a new threshold: €196.4 billion in revenue in 2025, up 7% year on year. Marketplaces are capturing a growing share of that volume, and for an e-commerce business they remain the fastest route to a qualified audience without having to build your own traffic. The hard part is picking the right ones, then keeping the delivery promise that comes with them: a centralised shipping platform and real-time parcel tracking stop being optional once orders arrive from five different channels.

This guide covers the 10 best marketplaces in France for 2026, the method used to rank them, what each platform actually costs, and which platforms you should drop. It also answers the question most sellers have: do you need a marketplace, your own online store connected to your sales channels, or both. If you are selling into France from outside the EU, there is a dedicated section further down.

Selling on a marketplace in France in 2026: which platforms to choose.

Key takeaways

  1. French e-commerce reached €196.4 billion in 2025 (+7%), with 3.2 billion transactions and 42.2 million online shoppers.
  2. France hosts more marketplace headquarters than any other European country: 21% of RetailX's EU1000 ranking.
  3. The most profitable French marketplaces for sellers are run by established retailers (Cdiscount, Leroy Merlin, Darty, Decathlon), not by pure players.
  4. Rakuten France, formerly PriceMinister, is shutting down. Selling stops on 30 September 2026, so remove it from your channel plan.
  5. What decides your multi-marketplace profitability is not the headline commission but whether you can run shipping and returns for every channel from one place.

Why sell on a marketplace in France in 2026?

Because the market is large, mature and structurally favourable to marketplaces. FEVAD published its annual review in February 2026: the sector is now worth close to €200 billion with 42.2 million online shoppers. In practice, almost every connected French consumer buys online.

Indicator (France, 2025) Value Change
Total e-commerce revenue €196.4bn +7%
Product sales €76.1bn +4%
Service sales €120.3bn +9%
Number of transactions 3.2 billion +10%
Online shoppers 42.2 million n/a

How much of French e-commerce goes through marketplaces?

Marketplaces accounted for 31% of product e-commerce volume in 2024, up from 29% the year before. The rise is steady and shows no sign of levelling off. The best-selling categories on French marketplaces are consumer electronics (25%), home appliances (17%), fashion (15%), DIY (9%) and toys and games (8%). If your products fall into one of those five families, a marketplace strategy is close to mandatory.

France, Europe's biggest marketplace ecosystem

This is the point most sellers underestimate. According to the RetailX study Europe's Marketplaces 2025, 21% of the marketplaces in the EU1000 ranking are headquartered in France, more than any other European country and ahead of the United States at 19%. A French marketplace is not a fallback behind Amazon: it is a dense, technically mature ecosystem, where platforms such as Leroy Merlin, La Redoute, Maisons du Monde, Castorama and Decathlon run on Mirakl, Cdiscount operates its own Octopia infrastructure, and ManoMano, Veepee and Showroomprivé have built proprietary stacks.

How we ranked the best French marketplaces

Most marketplace rankings blend two very different things: audience (how many visitors see the platform) and seller performance (how much a merchant actually sells there). A site can be enormously popular and still be a poor channel for a professional seller, because competition is head-on or the category is saturated.

This ranking therefore combines three sources:

Audience, via the FEVAD / Médiamétrie//NetRatings barometer, which measures monthly unique visitors to retail sites each quarter.
Seller performance, via the Lengow 2025 barometer of French marketplaces, built on aggregated, anonymised data from 600 merchants and combining sales volume (GMV), order count and number of active sellers.
Category fit, meaning how deep a platform actually is in a given product universe.

The Lengow barometer, which deliberately covers only France-headquartered platforms, puts Cdiscount, Leroy Merlin and ManoMano at the top, followed by La Redoute, Veepee, Maisons du Monde, Darty, Decathlon, Castorama and Showroomprivé. Our top 10 adds the international players a seller in France cannot ignore, starting with Amazon.fr.

The 10 best marketplaces in France in 2026

1. Amazon.fr

Amazon is still the number one e-commerce site in France, with roughly 42 million monthly unique visitors in Q4 2025. It is also the most-visited site on desktop, which matters for higher-value, more considered purchases. You have two models: FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon), where Amazon stores, ships and handles customer service, and FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant), where you keep control of logistics and therefore of your margin. FBM does mean meeting Amazon's delivery standards, which is far easier with automated shipping notifications.

Amazon's downside is well known: maximum competition on standard products, constant price pressure, and the risk of Amazon selling the same item itself. This is the volume channel, not the comfortable-margin channel.

2. Cdiscount

Founded in Bordeaux in 1998, Cdiscount is the most important France marketplace for sellers according to the Lengow 2025 barometer. Its hybrid model, both retailer and marketplace, backed by its Octopia infrastructure, gives it a seller ecosystem no vertical specialist in France can match. Its strongest categories are home, appliances, consumer electronics and DIY.

The professional seller subscription is €39.99 excluding VAT per month regardless of how many listings you have, plus a commission that varies by product category. Cdiscount also offers its own fulfilment service and supports pickup-point delivery natively, which French shoppers ask for constantly.

3. Leroy Merlin

Second place in the Lengow barometer is the real surprise of the French ecosystem. Launched in late 2020 on Mirakl, Leroy Merlin's marketplace now carries more than 3 million seller listings on top of the retailer's own catalogue. For a merchant in DIY, garden, tools, hardware or home improvement, it is currently the best-performing channel in the French market, with a high-intent audience and a high average order value.

4. ManoMano

ManoMano is one of only two pure players in the French top 10, and it is a specialist: DIY, gardening, tools, building materials. Founded in France in 2013, it runs on a proprietary technology stack. Its defining trait is how demanding it is: the platform expects short dispatch times and responsive customer support. If you can hold that service level, the category depth more than compensates.

5. La Redoute

Fourth in the Lengow barometer, La Redoute has successfully turned a heritage catalogue business into a fashion and home marketplace. It is a particularly good fit for decor, furniture, home textiles and ready-to-wear, with a loyal customer base and a more premium positioning than the discount platforms.

6. Veepee

Veepee does not work like a conventional marketplace: the model is built on time-limited flash sales open to members. You do not list a catalogue continuously, you take part in events. It is excellent for clearing stock, an end-of-collection run or seasonal surplus without breaking your public price, and it works as a complement rather than as a core channel.

7. Fnac Darty

The Fnac Darty group runs two separate marketplaces, with two identities and two teams, deliberately. Fnac leans editorial, culture and electronics; Darty covers appliances, kitchen and small home equipment. Darty sits seventh in the Lengow barometer. Joining the group requires professional status with a registered business, the ability to ship to the end customer yourself, and invoice issuance. Our dedicated guide to the Fnac Darty marketplace walks through the sign-up process.

8. Decathlon

Decathlon's marketplace runs on Mirakl and is backed by a brand that dominates sport in France. It is a narrow but very effective channel: if you sell sports equipment, nutrition, outdoor accessories or technical apparel, you reach an audience whose purchase intent is already qualified by the category itself.

9. Maisons du Monde

Sixth in the Lengow ranking, Maisons du Monde is the reference for decor and furniture in France. The marketplace extends a highly recognisable brand universe, which means selection: your products have to fit an aesthetic. In return you reach customers who came looking for exactly that kind of offer, with far less price pressure than on the generalists.

10. leboncoin

The second most-visited e-commerce site in France with 31.1 million monthly unique visitors in Q1 2026, leboncoin has become a genuine professional channel. The platform has built its pro offer around four categories, Fashion, Home, Multimedia and Leisure, with secure payment and integrated delivery through partners such as Colissimo and Mondial Relay. It is the channel of choice for secondhand, refurbished, end-of-line and display models, a segment that is far from marginal given that 41.4% of online shoppers bought at least one secondhand product in the last twelve months.

# Marketplace Product universe Main advantage for a seller
1 Amazon.fr Generalist Maximum audience, FBA logistics available
2 Cdiscount Generalist, home, electronics Leading French seller ecosystem
3 Leroy Merlin DIY, garden, home High average order value and purchase intent
4 ManoMano DIY, tools Pure specialist, deep category coverage
5 La Redoute Fashion, home, decor Loyal customers, premium positioning
6 Veepee Flash sales Clears stock without breaking public price
7 Fnac Darty Culture, electronics, appliances Two complementary marketplaces, dedicated team
8 Decathlon Sport, outdoor Audience pre-qualified by category
9 Maisons du Monde Decor, furniture Low price pressure, strong brand universe
10 leboncoin Secondhand, refurbished France's 2nd largest audience, low fees

What does selling on a France marketplace platform cost?

Almost every French marketplace combines two charges: a monthly pro seller subscription and a commission taken on each sale. The commission depends on the product category, and that is where your margin is decided. One thing sellers often miss: on several platforms the commission applies to the total amount the customer pays, shipping included. If you charge €5 for delivery, the commission covers that €5 too.

Marketplace Seller fee model Where to check the official rates
Amazon.fr Pro subscription + category commission (+ FBA fees if you delegate logistics) Seller Central
Cdiscount €39.99 excl. VAT / month + category commission Cdiscount Seller Zone and fee simulator
Leroy Merlin, Decathlon, Maisons du Monde, La Redoute Category commission, Mirakl back office Each retailer's seller portal
ManoMano Category commission, proprietary platform ManoMano sales contact
Fnac Darty Monthly subscription + category commission Fnac Darty seller portal
Veepee Negotiated per flash-sale event Veepee partner form
leboncoin Free pro profile; listing fees by category and commission on Fashion, Home, Multimedia and Leisure with secure payment leboncoin help centre
⚠ Warning: the real cost is not the headline commission

Fee schedules change regularly and vary a lot by sub-category. Always check the official rates in the seller portal before setting your prices, and build the indirect costs into your calculation: time spent on customer messages, returns, penalties for late dispatch, and the real per-parcel shipping cost. It is almost always shipping, not commission, that pushes a product line into loss.

Selling into France from abroad: what changes

Everything above assumes a seller already operating in France. If you run an online store in the United States, the United Kingdom or anywhere outside the EU and you want to reach French customers, the marketplace list stays the same but the operational picture does not. This is the part that surprises people who treat France as just another shipping destination.

Registration and tax: get this settled first

Most French marketplaces require professional status with a registered business, and where your company is based and where your stock sits both change your obligations. Depending on your setup you may need to register for VAT in France, or use IOSS for consignments under €150, or OSS if you hold stock inside the EU. Marketplaces frequently act as the deemed supplier for VAT on imported goods, which simplifies collection but does not remove your own registration duties.

You will also need an EORI number to clear goods into the EU, and since June 2024 the ICS2 regime requires enriched advance cargo data for shipments entering the Union. The applicable rules are published by the French customs administration. This is genuinely specialist territory and the penalties for getting it wrong are real, so treat the above as orientation and get a tax advisor who handles EU cross-border e-commerce to confirm your specific position before you list anything.

Localisation is not optional

French marketplaces expect listings in French, and not machine-translated French. Product titles, descriptions, size and measurement conventions, and after-sales communication all need to work in the language. Several platforms, including Cdiscount and Fnac Darty, also expect you to provide customer service in French. If you cannot staff that, prioritise the marketplaces that offer French-language customer support on your behalf.

Delivery expectations differ from the US market

This is the most common miscalculation in ecommerce sales from America to France. French shoppers strongly favour out-of-home delivery, and pickup points are a mainstream default rather than a budget option. A checkout that offers only home delivery will convert worse than one that offers a pickup-point map. Delivery speed also matters more to French buyers than to many other European markets, which makes a local or EU-based fulfilment arrangement worth modelling early.

For a broader view of the operational side, our guide on cross-border shipping covers customs documentation and multi-country delivery, and if the US is also a target market in the other direction we have a companion piece on expanding e-commerce to the US market.

French marketplace or international platform: how to choose

The question is not which camp to join but what each type of channel gives you. A French marketplace gives you highly qualified local traffic, buyers used to the country's payment methods and, in the case of retail chains, the option of in-store collection. An international platform gives you raw volume and often access to several countries from a single connection.

What choosing a French marketplace actually changes

Three concrete advantages, rarely highlighted in a generic top marketplace list:

Less head-on competition. On a specialist French marketplace you compete with dozens of sellers on your listing, not thousands.
French-language customer service from the platform. That reduces the volume of disputes that reach you.
Delivery expectations aligned with the local market. French shoppers want pickup points and click and collect, which local platforms support natively.

When an international platform is still essential

If your product is standardised, in high demand and you are price-competitive, Amazon's audience is unbeatable for building volume quickly. Equally, to test a neighbouring country without setting up a local entity, a shared international channel costs less than a per-market local integration. The sensible approach is sequential: build a solid base on two or three French channels, then widen.

Marketplace or your own online store?

This is the most common confusion, and it is worth clearing up: Shopify, PrestaShop and WooCommerce are not marketplaces. They are platforms for building and running your own store. On a marketplace you rent an existing audience and pay a commission. On your own site you own the customer relationship, the data and the margin, but you have to build your traffic yourself.

Building an online store France buyers will trust

PrestaShop deserves a specific mention in a French context: it was founded in France and remains widely used among the country's SMEs, with a dense local ecosystem of developers and agencies. Shopify offers the fastest setup, WooCommerce the most technical freedom if you are already on WordPress.

Whichever you pick, an online store France shoppers will convert on needs three things the platform alone does not give you: pricing in euros with local payment methods including Carte Bancaire, a delivery choice that includes pickup points, and returns handled in French. Those are the same expectations the marketplaces have already solved for you, which is why running both models in parallel usually beats choosing one.

🏪
If you are starting out or testing a market

Begin with one or two marketplaces aligned to your category. You validate real demand and market pricing without spending on acquisition. Treat the commission as a cost of learning and put your effort into listing quality and hitting dispatch deadlines.

🏭
If you already have stable volume

Run both in parallel. Marketplaces fund your volume and visibility, your own store captures the margin and the repeat customers. The condition for this model to hold: a single logistics layer that treats orders from every channel the same way.

Specialist French marketplaces worth knowing

Beyond the top 10, the French ecosystem includes narrower platforms that are often less competitive and therefore sometimes more profitable. Many sellers are looking for a site like Amazon but less saturated, and these vertical marketplaces are exactly that. If your catalogue matches their universe precisely, they are worth a test.

Marketplace Speciality Which seller it suits
Castorama DIY, home improvement Ninth in the Lengow barometer, alternative to Leroy Merlin
Showroomprivé Private sales, fashion Second pure player in the French top 10, stock clearance
Back Market Refurbished products Electronics refurbishers and repairers
Rue du Commerce Consumer electronics, smart home Owned by the LDLC group since 2024
Pixmania Consumer electronics, appliances Relaunched in 2021, active in France and Spain
Auchan, Carrefour, E.Leclerc Generalist, grocery retail Strong local traffic and in-store collection
Conforama Furniture, home equipment Applications subject to retailer approval

Which platforms should you drop in 2026?

A channel plan needs pruning as much as it needs building. Two major shifts to factor in this year.

⚠ Warning: Rakuten France is closing permanently

On 16 July 2026, Rakuten France management confirmed the closure of its marketplace, the former PriceMinister, after failing to find a viable buyer. Buying and selling become impossible from 30 September 2026 at 23:59, with permanent closure before the end of the year. If you were selling on this channel, reallocate that volume now. The platform had lost 42% of its traffic and a third of its customer base over ten years, squeezed between Amazon and the Asian platforms.

Several platforms that appeared in guides written a few years ago have also disappeared or changed character: Ubaldi, Wish and Pixmania in its original form no longer match what pre-2020 articles described. Always verify a marketplace's actual status before investing time in a catalogue integration.

The Asian platforms are a special case: Temu has confirmed third place by audience and Shein remains in the top 10, but these channels operate in a tense European regulatory environment. FEVAD's own managing director has highlighted the ongoing debate about competitive conditions. Treat them as bets, not foundations.

How to manage logistics when you sell on several marketplaces

This is where most multi-marketplace strategies fall apart. Every platform imposes its own deadlines, order statuses and penalties. Handling that manually becomes unmanageable beyond two or three channels. On the monitoring side, a shipment analysis dashboard lets you track your KPIs and isolate delivery incidents by carrier and by destination.

1
Centralise order import

Connect each marketplace once so orders arrive automatically in a single queue, with address, contents and value.

💡 A single order queue eliminates double entry, the leading cause of address errors.

2
Automate carrier selection

Set rules based on sales channel, destination country, weight or product type using shipping automation, then let the platform compare rates across all your carriers and surface the cheapest options first. This is the most direct lever on shipping cost.

3
Offer pickup points at checkout

Out-of-home delivery dominates in France. Click and collect, pickup points and parcel lockers reduce failed deliveries and therefore disputes. The Pickup Points at Checkout module shows a map of pickup points during payment. Note: it installs on PrestaShop, Magento, WooCommerce and Storeden, and setup requires some technical work.

4
Push tracking back to the marketplace

The tracking number needs to reach each platform automatically, along with the switch to shipped status. This is a seller-rating criterion, not an administrative detail.

5
Industrialise returns

A self-service returns portal cuts customer service load and protects your seller rating. See Returns.

Every marketplace connected in one place, with its connection status.
💡 Pro Tip: treat shipping as a variable, not a fixed cost

Most multi-marketplace sellers use a single carrier out of habit. Compare real cost per parcel and per destination over three months using invoice analysis, available in Beta: the gap between delivery services on the same route is often larger than the marketplace commission itself.

Selling from France to other markets

Many French marketplaces open access to several European countries from a single connection. It is the cheapest way to test a neighbouring market, but it needs two kinds of preparation.

First, compliance. To ship outside the European Union you need an EORI number, and customs duty and import VAT depend on the product code and declared value. Two practical details prevent customs holds. EORI and VAT numbers cannot be entered on a CN22 declaration: they have to appear on the invoice attached to the shipment. And depending on parcel weight and value, either a CN22 or a CN23 is required, and the two forms are not interchangeable. Inside the EU there is no customs duty, but VAT and reporting obligations still apply.

Second, localisation. European marketplaces validate the product feed and the offer feed separately, and a bad taxonomy mapping triggers automatic rejections. Our guides on the best marketplaces in Spain and the best marketplaces in Germany cover the two markets French sellers usually open next.

On the technical side, the multi-carrier API and the developer documentation let you generate labels and transmit electronic trade documents (ETD) programmatically, which becomes necessary as soon as cross-border volume grows.

What is the best marketplace to sell on in France?

There is no universal best marketplace. Amazon.fr offers the widest audience, Cdiscount the leading French seller ecosystem, and Leroy Merlin or ManoMano outperform in DIY. The right choice is the one whose product universe most closely matches yours, because that is what determines your conversion rate and your competitive pressure.

What are the main marketplaces in France?

The main generalist marketplaces in France are Amazon.fr, Cdiscount, leboncoin, Fnac Darty, Carrefour, Auchan and E.Leclerc. For specialist categories, Leroy Merlin and ManoMano dominate DIY, Decathlon covers sport, and La Redoute and Maisons du Monde lead home and decor.

Do I need a registered business to sell on a French marketplace?

Yes, for virtually all professional marketplaces. You need a registered company, usually evidenced by a Kbis extract or a SIRET number, and you must be able to issue an invoice to the end customer. Most platforms accept the French auto-entrepreneur status.

How much are the selling fees on a marketplace?

The usual structure combines a monthly pro seller subscription with a commission on each sale that varies by category. Cdiscount, for example, charges €39.99 excluding VAT per month plus commission. Note that on several platforms the commission also applies to the shipping charges billed to the customer.

How do I handle ecommerce sales from America to France?

You will need an EORI number to clear goods into the EU, a VAT solution appropriate to where your stock sits (IOSS for consignments under €150, or French or OSS registration if you hold stock in the EU), listings and customer service in French, and a checkout that offers pickup-point delivery, which French shoppers expect as standard. Marketplaces often act as deemed supplier for import VAT, which helps but does not remove your own registration duties. Confirm your position with a tax advisor experienced in EU cross-border e-commerce.

Is Rakuten France still open to sellers?

No. Rakuten France, formerly PriceMinister, confirmed its closure on 16 July 2026. Buying and selling stop on 30 September 2026 and the platform will disappear permanently before the end of the year. This channel should no longer appear in a 2026 sales plan.

Does Pixmania still exist?

Yes. Pixmania resumed operations in France in 2021 after several difficult years and now trades in the French and Spanish markets, mainly in consumer electronics and appliances. The company even bid to acquire Rakuten France's marketplace in 2026.

Is there a marketplace in Paris, France specifically?

Not in the e-commerce sense. Searches for a marketplace in Paris, France usually return either physical markets and flea markets in the city, or classified-listing platforms filtered to the Paris region. French online marketplaces are national rather than city-based, so a seller targeting Paris buyers uses the national platforms in this guide and relies on delivery options, particularly the dense network of pickup points across the city.

What do France internet shopping habits mean for sellers?

France internet shopping behaviour has three features that directly affect sellers. Out-of-home delivery is mainstream, so pickup points belong at checkout rather than as an afterthought. Delivery speed weighs more heavily than in several neighbouring markets. And the secondhand segment is genuinely large, with 41.4% of online shoppers buying at least one used product in the past year.

Is Shopify a marketplace?

No. Shopify is a platform for building and running your own online store, like PrestaShop or WooCommerce. You own the customer relationship and the margin, but you generate your own traffic. A marketplace lends you its audience in exchange for a commission. The two models are complementary rather than competing.

What is Business France and does it run a marketplace?

Business France is the French government agency for international business development and export support. It does not operate a selling platform. Searches for marketplace Business France usually relate to the agency's export support programmes rather than to a channel you can list products on, so if you are looking for somewhere to sell, the platforms in this guide are the relevant ones. The agency can still be useful to a foreign seller entering the market, just for advice and introductions rather than as a sales channel.

How many marketplaces should I sell on at once?

Start with one or two platforms aligned to your category, stabilise your service metrics, then add one channel at a time. The constraint is almost never commercial but operational: every new channel adds deadlines and order statuses to manage, which only works if your logistics are centralised.

Are French marketplaces competitive against international players?

Yes, more than people assume. France holds 21% of the marketplace headquarters in RetailX's European EU1000 ranking, more than any other country in Europe. Eight of the ten best-performing French marketplaces for sellers are backed by physical retail chains, which gives them brand recognition, local traffic and in-store collection.
